Urban hike and secret stairs in Montecito Heights Sunday

The Avalon Stairway in Echo Park, Walk #14 in Secret Stairs book

It might be a little on the hot side this weekend, but if you're willing to brave to heat check out a great (and free) public hike with Charles Fleming, author of Secret Stairs.

The group will be leaving from the intersection of Monterey Road and Huntington Drive (in front of Mr. Good's donut shop) on Sunday, September 14 at 9:00 am promptly. The hike will explore the area known as Happy Valley in Montecito Heights (alongside El Sereno) - a fantastic neighborhood to explore, featuring some of the best views in the city.

This area is also a great place to explore if you're looking to buy a home in any of our great Northeast Los Angeles communities.

The walk will last about 1.5 hours, covering around 3.5 miles and climb about 650 steps (wow, workout!). The walk is measured a 5 out of 5 - meaning it's a fairly difficult/rigorous walk.

Bring lots of cool water, hats and sunscreen; dogs on leashes are welcome!

If you can't make it to this weekend's hike, be sure to sign up for Charles Fleming's email list on his website, where he'll send you information on the monthly hike. Also be sure to pick up a copy of Secret Stairs.
